From the Grower
"With notes of cherries on the first nose, then blackcurrant and pepper, Grand Mont is a wine of great depth and complexity. A voluminous and velvety mouth, associated with notes of red fruits, make it a salivating and greedy cuvée of a great straightness"

Additional Information

Grand Mont, one of the most famous vineyards of the Bourgueil appellation. This magnificent parcel, located on the top of the commune of Benais, reveals powerful and deep Cabernet Franc, while remaining in finesse. Terroir of clay-limestone, the plots of Grand Mont are laid on the middle part of the Turonian, a clay cover of variable thickness (from 50cm to 1 meter), rich inmicaceous chalk particles. Our objective is to harvest by hand a perfectly healthy grape, at optimal maturity. The grapes are destemmed and sorted a second time in the cellar before being taken to the vats. We use only indigenous yeasts and vinify without anyinput. We proceed with a slow and measured infusion for 3 to 4 weeks. The free-run juice is then poured into a 10hL earthenware jar and into 500L barrels. The wine is aged for 24 months in the Vau Renou cellars where it rests at ideal temperature and hygrometry.
something
According to Saint Nicolas de Bourgueil’s AOP system, at Le Clos des Quarterons we mainly use Cabernet Franc. However, our vines are planted on a wide diversity of “terroirs”, so it’s been 10 years since it became obvious to run our vineyard based on the precepts of biodynamic agriculture, to let express the “taste of the place” in our wines. Biodynamic farming is very important for us, because it respects LIFE. It is far more than just a list of specifications. The ecosystem lies at the crossroads of energies from the Earth (roots) and Space (flowers, leaves and fruit). Given that the microbiological life of the vineyard is what enables both successful fermentations in the cellar and the creation of wine that is able to survive without a technological crutch, sustaining a healthy habitat in the vineyard for these microbes is fundamental for us. This microbiological life follows the grapes into the cellar, transforms the juice and even makes its way into the final wine in the bottle. Our wines are therefore, literally, living wine from living soil. For us, the Biodynamie principles go well beyond the wine itself, it is also a philosophy, a way of life : A virtuous system in which Man and Nature are one, and balance is achieved.
