“Filarole” means “a couple of rows, a small vineyard” in the local Piacenza dialect. That is the name we chose when we started taking care of old vines in our valley: Val Tidone, the very last valley of Emilia Romagna and a territory where wine has always been an important part of farming activies, long before chemistry entered wineries. Our wines are born in the vineyards, that is why it was so important for us to chose the plants with which we wanted to work. Now we take care of 7 hectares of old vines aged between 40 and 100 years with the indigenous grapes of Piacenza: the red Barbera and Croatina, the white Malvasia aromatica di Candia and Ortrugo. Biodiversity is, in our idea, not only the life in and around the vineyards, but also the preservation of plants and varieties. We make wine like once, very simply: grapes and lots of patience. Just indigenous yeasts, no added sulphites or other things, no filtrations or other actions. We want to respect the character and traditions of the territory and the characteristics of the vintage without forcing the maturation time or resorting to artificial corrections in the cellar. We would like every year to be a new experience for those who drink our wines.
