Gardunha Sul Lda

The Gardunha Sul project was born in 2020, but was only official in 2021.

The idea is make simple, honest wines, inspired by what is the ancient portugues tradition of make wine for the familly to consume during the year.

We have aquired a 70-80 years old vineyard. It has 2,5ha and is planted only with portuguese local and regional vaities. We believe that this is a very important aspect of this project since it helps diversify and preserve the type and caracter of the local wines. There is not much sense on planting Cabernet Sauvignon or Chardonnay, where we can have Marufo, Fonte Cal or Carrga Burros, that give origin to unique and trully diferent wines.

We do more than organic farming, using very low intervention with treatments, strickly Copper, Sulphur and some Biodinamic prepartions. We want to be the most truthfull as possible, to the terroir and the purity of the grapes. And sometimes Nature claims a big part of the harvest, like it happen this year.

We are not certified in organic beacuse we believe that organic farming is still very relied on a very big aray of products, and we are much more strict than that.

In the winery, the same principal is aplied, with grapes fermenting on natural yeast, without any additions, without temperature control, finning agents or filtration.

We only aply a small amount of SO2, with the limit of 30 mg/L.

In the search of more natural ways to preserve the wine, we are now experimenting with Chestnut flower, so we can substitute SO2 for good.
