The estate is surrounded by a myth according to which Attila the Hun has killed Christian monks on our monopoly single vineyard site "Heiliger Butberg" in 454 AD. Afterwards, in 746 AD, the holy Bonifatius planted the first vines on the estate and built a chapel in remembrance of that deed. The estate was founded in 1826 and was bought by our great-grandfather in 1924.
It is family owned in the 4th generation now.
Heiligenblut stands for sustainably produced, honest and alive wines.
"We see ourselves as the binding piece between modern stylistic and tradition, as an expression of timeless longevity. Between people entering the world of wine and experienced wine lovers. Between nature and culture. Between joy of live and passion.
Consequently thinking in terms of harmony instead of radical extremes."
This is our credo.
Our label shows the winery and its 3 historic buildings from the 19th century. It has been remodeled after the oldest known label from the estate from 1842:
- Size of their farm: 16 (ha)
- Size of farm under vine: 15 (ha)
- All grapes are dry-farmed. None of the vineyards are irrigated.
- All grapes are harvested manually.
