L'Étranger is a relatively new and small cellar in the Roussillon, France. Calce, our village , due to its soil diversity and richness is an historical stronghold of organic/natural wines in the region.

We made our first vintage in 2019, and today we have 6,5 hectares of vines, mostly old ones. All our vines are side by side, divided and surrounded by trees, 10ha of Mediterranean vegetation , 3,5 ha more of lands to be planted and dry stone walls that we recover and build. All our plot are organic certified or in conversion, with Certipaq - an associative controller.

Soil revitalising, biodiversity increase , low/no fossil fuels/chemical products use and direct connection with people are the four pillars of our work in and around our vineyards. Our routine of care for the plants is based on milk whey, plant infusions/fermentations, compost tea and essential oils; the tractor passes as little as possible so as not to compact the soil, and keep the biodiversity. For the moment we do not have a tractor, we hire a service provider when needed.

In the cellar we make living wines, natural yeasts, short macerations to reach fineness and complexity, ageings in stainless steel, old oak and chestnut barrels/vat and ceramic jars that help us to follow our wines preserving fruitiness and minerality, without covering/hiding the grape variety and the terroir. Two characteristics of our cellar: high organisation and hygiene standards. We have no dogma, neither guru, we are as free as our wines.

Our portfolio nowadays is composed of three white wines, three red wines, one sparkling wine - traditional method and one integral wine. We have a small production of 15 thousand bottles per year and in our cave it's possible to produce up to 25 thousand bottles.

All the commercial part is done by us, likewise the work in the vines and in the cellar. We work in a short distribution circuit in France, Spain and Italy. Contacts, tastings and deliveries are done by us only. Direct human contact Winemaker-restaurant/bar/customer is key to our business strategy and to our life.
