Even though Monban is located in the heart of the Conegliano and Valdobbiadene hills, it is far from being a typical Prosecco winery. In fact, none of the wines Matteo produces are labeled as Prosecco, even though some might say they are among the closest to what Prosecco used to be before its global success.
Matteo comes from one of the most renowned families in the Prosecco region, with a grape-growing tradition dating back to 1542. Despite having the opportunity to work for his family’s winery, he chose to follow his own vision, dedicating himself to a small-scale winery entirely shaped by his philosophy.
The winemaking style is inspired by the past, with spontaneous fermentation, minimal use of sulfites, and no filtration. The wines are vinified in the historic cellar, using the original 1960s concrete vats. In 2024, Matteo and his wife Veronica, an interior designer, renovated the winery, which is set in a stunning landscape amidst the Prosecco hills, within an ancient estate that includes a 15th-century tower.
Annual production is limited to just 10,000 bottles, primarily consisting of still wines and Colfondo—a traditional bottle-refermented style that has now been almost entirely replaced by the Charmat method (tank fermentation).
