Poggio Bbaranèllo

We are a young female-only reality run by Silvia and Lisa. We are located in upper Lazio, in Montefiascone, Lake Bolsena (Tuscia). Basically we do everything ourselves, from pruning to harvesting (harvesting is the only time when we obviously need the help of other people, whom we hire and pay for ethical principles, something not taken for granted in Italy and in our parts). We have 4.4 hectares of young vines planted between 2014 and 2015 with a very low yield, this year we made an average of 25q.li (the local discipilinari have as a maximum production for doc 130q.li hectare). The grapes are all white berried and specifically Procanico (Tuscan Trebbiano), Roscetto (yellow Trebbiano) and Malvasia Lunga Toscana. Starting from winter work we prune with the Simonit & Sirch method to allow the plant to make the best use of the lymphatic flow. Fertilization is during winter time with manure, organic compounds or manure compounds. Furthermore, in fertilization as well as in spring and summer treatments we use zeolite which is a clay. The latter in fertilization is useful for retaining water and releasing it slowly (we are on a steep ground with an initial layer of sand and then immediately tuff, soil that retains very little water and the zeolite helps us to partially compensate for this). Zeolite is also very useful in foliar treatments, which we do with sulfur, copper and precisely zeolite, as it creates a light layer (patina) on the plant that does not let parasites and fungi pass in addition to allowing sulfur and copper to better adhere to the surface of the fruit and leaf. The harvest is manual, in small boxes of 15/18 kg. Five days before the harvest we collect 10% of the mass we want to vinify and let this 10% begin fermentation, then we collect after 5 days 90% of the remaining mass and add 10% to start the fermentation earlier. We make a lot of wines in very small quantities, we produced 8/9 types of wine for only 7000 /8000 bottles total.
