We are in the countryside south of Noto, in the calcareous soil of the southernmost point of Sicily, in an area called Buonivini, and for four generations we have listened to and tilled this land. In these plants, in these clods, there is the spirit of our ancestors, the love of our family, the stubborn pride of a deep bond, the vision of a decent world, an ancient sense of duty and of the given word, a deep gratitude to those who gave them this gift. On this hill Tenuta La Favola was born, a reality that comes from this world, that respects biodiversity, that uses renewable energies and that is proud to have had Italian and Swiss organic certification since its inception in 2002. The main part of the estate covers about 9 hectares. Another 3 hectares are located about 300 metres away and another 3 hectares are close to the sea and the marshes. In total there are about 19 hectares, of which 12 are vineyards, 5 are olive groves and the rest are farm buildings, dry stone walls and ecological compensation areas. Before the harvest, the grapes are selected on the plant. When the grapes are ripe, samples are taken to prepare the pied de cuvee. Our wines are aged in steel tanks, stone tanks and stoneware amphorae. The stone (not concrete) tanks were built in 1902. In 2005, after several years of disuse, the tanks were treated with special breathable resins and prepared for new use. The stone ensures natural cooling of the wine and gives it a pleasant minerality. The stoneware amphorae allow the wine to age and mature, preserving the typical characteristics of the wine without olfactory contamination. We believe that agriculture and wine are culture, history, hope, patience, in a word, that the vine is life.
